Samsung rolls out Ethereum-based SDK beta version; to launch official version soon

Samsung made its foray into the blockchain world this year after unveiling a cryptocurrency wallet for its Galaxy 10 flagship phone based on ETH and ERC-20 tokens, which also supported a few DApps. Earlier in June, Samsung also revealed that the company was involved in designing and manufacturing chips for Bitcoin mining, since the first quarter of 2018.

In a major development, the South Korean tech giant has released the beta version Ethereum-based blockchain [software developer kit] SDK for the latest series of Galaxy smartphones [Galaxy S10E, S10, S10+, S10 5G, and the Galaxy Fold]. Touted as the “superset of all SDKs,” the latest roll-out will provide both developers and consumers “a full set of functions that any Decentralized App [DApp] needs. It will be available in Canada, South Korea, and the USA.

The kit will enable the generation, storage, management and backup of all valid user accounts. The Samsung Blockchain SDK will further allow the facilitation of payment activities, authorization of digital signatures, while also linking users to any cold wallets, and not just Samsung KeyStore. Additionally, the beta edition SDK will facilitate the creation of transactions and the result of the transfer will be sent to a blockchain node.

A Samsung partner will have access to additional features from the kit. For instance, blockchain specialized browser [or Android WebView provider] for web DApps. Partners will also be provided with transaction history by Samsung Blockchain Proxy Node’s off-chain Database, as well as tools for fee estimation, fiat-cryptocurrency exchange rate, cryptocurrency price, and ERC token information.

The official note detailed that the Samsung Blockchain SDK will be available to communicate with external blockchain nodes providing payment solutions. In a major plus for developers, the solution can be cost-effective to build DApps. However, the developer must have a wallet logics. The developers can also request a partnership for early access to the beta version.

The official version of the Samsung Blockchain SDK will be announced by the end of 2019. The company is also gearing to launch its native token dubbed “Samsung Coin” by 2020.
